Spring Break, Part 1 of 3
Our first official boat visitors were my friends from college, Carrie and Sara, and Sara’s daughter, Anna. From Seattle and Washington, DC, respectively, they flew through Istanbul and on to Antalya where we were supposed to meet them with the boat. Planes are more reliable than boats, so Rosie and I drove to meet them and spent a day in Antalya. Rosie and Anna had become fast friends after our weeks in Maine last summer, and having Anna visit was a surprise for Rosie and Jordan. Rosie didn’t even know what to think!
After tending to their jet lag in the hammam, we visited Hadrian’s Gate, had our fortunes chosen by rabbits, and finally squeezed all of the suitcases (three of them full of stuff for us and parts for the boat) into a rental car back to Fethiye.
It was the start of a great week with ancient ruins at every turn, days filled with sightseeing, evenings full of dance parties, card games and plenty of laughter. Rosie and Anna shopped for matching outfits and spent so much time trying things on that Sara and I finally told them the wifi was going down in the store and the credit card machine wouldn’t work. They finally left the dressing room! But of all of us, Carrie gamely put up with our kids and attended all the dance parties, thereby earning MVP of the week, and the most deserving of a vacation from her vacation.
