Castles and Peacocks In Bodrum

From Datça we sailed around the peninsula to Bodrum, a tourist capital of Turkey. Beloved for its cool breezes all summer long, Bodrum is one of the best-known destinations on the Turkish coast. The Bodrum castle is a huge and well-maintained museum where we spent hours. They also have several peacocks, both the colorful and all white ones, that roam around the grounds poking their heads into all the tourist selfies. As it turns out, Rosie discovered her spirit animal in the lovely peacock: they and she are beautiful, in your business and loud.

Other than the castle, Bodrum is filled with streets lined with the fanciest handbag stores I’ve ever seen — all selling fakes. It is a fascinating above-ground black-market economy that probably benefits all the brands…. The restaurants and bars are plentiful and Russ and I enjoyed a delicious sunset seafood meal at a family restaurant where there is a menu but there are no choices.

We celebrated Jordan’s birthday in Bodrum, and then as a newly minted 12-year-old, Russ and I dragged him up a big hill for views and some exploration of old wind mills.

Our next and last stop in Turkey before departing Big Emocean’s home country is Güllük, where we will visit Ephesus. A few more days and we are off to see the world!
